Ray Leonard and Evan Wakefield take out Street Stock 20/20
Popular West Australian Street Stock driver, Evan Wakefield has returned from a very serious illness, to record an excellent victory in the Street Stock 20/20 at the MCD Contracting Esperance Speedway on Saturday night ahead of Bob Wakefield/Peter Walker and Bronty/Zane Humphrys.
Paired with Ray Leonard, the pair had to do things the hard way, after Leonard was sent to the rear of the field in the first Feature Race, which was won by Tim Coxall. A heavy crash marred the Feature when Esperance driver Tristan Stroet spun, and was collected by Dale Cockman, wrecking both cars.
The second Feature race would see Albany based driver Paul Colmer lead for seventeen laps, before Wakefield took the lead. In a desperate finish, Colmer tried an outside move which didn’t pay off, going from second to fifth, with Peter Walker and Bob Wakefield finishing second, while Bronty and Zane Humphrys would finish third, just ahead of another brother combination of Brenton and Kyron Bridges.
Defending Champions, Jack Barnewall and Dean Shore were only able to compete in one heat, before mechancial dramas ended their night.
