#88 Braeden Aylmore crowned WA Supermod State Champion

#88 Braeden Aylmore claimed a famous victory at the McD Contracting Esperance Speedway, picking up the Supermod State Title in the process on Saturday, 17th March 2018.

 

The Williams-based Aylmore went on to win the final feature in front of a fast finishing Manjimup-based Grant Campbell in second and local Esperance champion, Neville Williams in third.

 

Heat One: Darren Ahearn started the night off in fine style, winning Heat 1 in his number 2 mod ahead of Narrogin's Cam McEllister and Darrall Smith from Kondinin in third.


Heat Two: #41 Mark Shepherd completed Heat 2 with a win ahead of Mick Roberts in car 62, and eventual podium finisher, Grant Campbell.


Heat Three: Ahearn again impressing in Heat 3, taking out first place in front of Campbell and Lance Beaver in third.


Heat Four: Eventual champion Alymore began to make his mark as a serious contender, finishing Heat four with a good win ahead of second placed Smith and third placed Williams.

 

Heat Five: Ahearn finished another strong heat in first place ahead of last year's defending champion Cameron Shepherd and Manjimup's Lance Beaver.


Heat Six: Esperance's Neville Williams made the most of home track conditions taking out heat 6 in front of Campbell and Aylmore.

 

From there Aylmore won the Top 6 shootout with the feature final top 6 placings starting as: #88 Aylmore, 2# Darren Ahearn, #12 Grant Campbell, #51 Neville Williams. #6 Darrall Smith, #41 Mark Shepherd. 

 

It wasn't the best night for defending champ, Cameron Shepherd who didn't finish in his second heat and did not start in the final feature. A total of 17 cars started the night but only 9 cars managed to complete the gruelling final.
