Meeting Preview

The MCD Contracting Esperance Speedway comes to life again this Australia Day long weekend for our biggest annual event on the racing calendar. Those 'Things with Wings' return down south for the South Coast Foodservice & Total Asphalt 360 Sprint car Power Series. Two huge rounds of Sprint car action over two massive nights is set to rock the Esperance clay in a thundering display of dirt racing that you won't want to miss!

Big Names in Big Cars don't come any bigger than this with drivers from all over the state as well as internationally are ready to make their mark on Esperance soil. Butcher, White, Manders, Ellement, Landrigan and Keen are just some of the names ready to do business as Rounds 5 & 6 of the Make Smoking History 360 Sprint car Power Series championship become pivotal towards the pointy end of the sprint car series.

Current series leader and defending power series champion, Ben Butcher in #42 heads to Esperance Speedway this weekend, stacked with loads of form and plenty of confidence leading the rest of the field on 720 points. Butcher will be the one to beat as he looks to extend his lead in the points tally.

Sam Borlini who is narrowly trailing Butcher on points (712) is one to look out for with Borlini impressing at the Motorplex last round. A rear of the field start didn't phase the Nyabing boy as he fought his way to a podium finish. Borlini will look to continue building on a solid season so far with a round win here.

There will be plenty of Kalgoorlie flavour amongst the final field with sprint car stalwart, Ray Leonard lining up alongside fellow red dirt boys Taylor Milling, Jarrin Bielby, Rob Watson Jnr & Jacob Potts. Leonard is enjoying a successful season behind the wheel of the #12 with recent wins sitting him in third place of the series leaderboard on 694 points. The familiar track of Esperance could come into favour for Leonard where previous success here could mean success for this weekend.

American, Harli White is also making the long trip south for this double header with the young Oklahoma racer ready to take on whatever challenge awaits her. Currently competing in the Maddington Toyota Sprintcar Series, Harli has an incredible story behind her. Her first race ever could have been her last. In 2008 Harli went to her first Micro race ever in which her car flipped and exploded into flames with Harli still strapped in. She was trapped and was left with scars over 50% of her body with deep third degree burns. However, as soon as White was released from hospital, she was ready to race again, so in 2009 she went back to racing micros before making her way up to the sprint car division and has since never looked back. The Esperance Speedway is very lucky to have White race with us and even on Australia Day, it will be hard not to cheer for the young American!

Daniel Keen heads to Esperance Speedway this weekend, ready to defend his previous Esperance round win in January last year. Although it hasn't been a favourable year for the #90 (sitting 15th overall on series points), can Keen make it back to back round wins in Esperance for the second year in a row? After-all, form is temporary, class is permanent.

Young gun, Kaiden Manders is ready for his first outing here in nearly 2 years with the 21 year old already making major in-roads within the sprint car fraternity. Manders already has a championship under his belt when he won the 2016/2017 360 Sprint car Power Series as a 19 year old. Kaiden had his interest in Speedway racing ignited by his dad who had raced sedans and speedcars. Looking at the way Manders handles his car around the track, you would think he had been racing for decades.

Other drivers from far and wide around this state include Jamie Landrigan (Port Hedland) and sprinters Callem Sweetman, Steve Adley, Ben Ellement & Darren Mewett from Perth all making the trip down for a huge weekend of action.

Also on the program as support divisions are the New Era Shearing Junior Sedans, The J & N Dickerson Fabrication Productions and the Esperance Combined Tyres and Mechanical Burnouts Division which are sure to promise plenty of terrific racing in between.

There's plenty of rubber burning, mud-churning action right here! Be sure to make your way down to the McD Contracting Esperance Speedway this Australia Day Long Weekend - 26th & 27th January for the biggest show in town. With FREE entry to kids under 12, full Bar & Canteen facilities available, there is something for the whole family to enjoy.

Adults $20, Concession - Students/Pensioners $15. Gates are open to the public from 4pm with Racing commencing at 6pm. Remember to come early to grab the best seats in the house! This is summer. This is Speedway!
